Reid Should Return Money

    The push for ethics reform is encouraging, but the motivation must rise above the pettiness of partisan politics. 

    Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, among the most outspoken voices in the reform movement, received $68,000 from Jack Abramoff and associates, the Associated Press reported. 

    Abramoff, the super-lobbyist at the heart of the scandal, has pleaded guilty to fraud and bribery. 

    Reid used his clout to help Indian tribes — Abramoff clients — five times, once on the Senate floor and four times with letters pressing the Bush administration on tribal issues, AP reported. 

    Reid has assailed Republicans, saying that lawmakers who received donations from Abramoff should return the money. It is time for the sanctimonious senator to do the same.
