Las Vegas, NV: State Republican Party Chairman Paul Adams issued the following statement in response to Senator Harry Reid’s signature on a Democrat-driven letter demonstrating a new commitment to a cut-and-run position on the war in Iraq:
“Harry Reid’s newfound support for an abandonment of the war on terror by pulling troops from the middle-east is driven by a political, not a national security agenda. When the region and the world is facing crisis in the middle-east, does Harry Reid and the democrat leadership honestly believe that now is the time to withdraw from the fight?
If Harry Reid were to consider long term national security implications more important than short term DC political posturing, he would at least wait until the current turmoil in Lebanon settled before launching his election year parlor games. It’s very apparent that Harry Reid is more committed to fighting a war to win Senate seats than he is to fighting to win the war on terror.
This issue is too important, and the safety of our country is too vital for Reid to use it as a political tool.”
Democrat’s Strategy Is All Political
100 Days Out From 2006 Election, Democrats Unite Behind “Cut And Run” Strategy In Iraq:
“After Months Of Struggling To Forge A Unified Stance On The Iraq War, Top Congressional Democrats Joined Voices Yesterday To Call On President Bush To Begin Withdrawing U.S. Troops By The End Of The Year And To "Transition To A More Limited Mission" In The War-Torn Nation.” (Charles Babington and Jim VandeHei, “Hill Democrats Unite To Urge Bush To Begin Iraq Pullout,” The Washington Post, 8/1/06, http://tinyurl.com/rmwq2)
“The 12 Democrats, Led By House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) And Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) …” (Charles Babington and Jim VandeHei, “Hill Democrats Unite To Urge Bush To Begin Iraq Pullout,” The Washington Post, 8/1/06)
“For All Its Passion, The Letter Has More Significance As A Political Statement Than As A Policy Alternative. Most Democrats Previously Have Embraced The General Idea Of Beginning A Troop Drawdown This Year, And The Letter Adds No Specifics About How Many Troops Should Be Withdrawn Or How Rapidly.” (Charles Babington and Jim VandeHei, “Hill Democrats Unite To Urge Bush To Begin Iraq Pullout,” The Washington Post, 8/1/06)
